Episode Overview

Darryl Cooper, creator of the MartyrMade podcast — known for its exhaustive, multi-hour deep dives into historical events and ideological movements — joins Joe for a conversation about the power of slow, thorough historical research in an age of hot takes. Joe acknowledges the controversy Darryl went through ('I'm sorry all that stuff happened to you') but notes it ultimately brought more attention to his work. They open discussing the Ankalaev-Pereira UFC fight as a gateway to the bigger themes of the episode: conviction, execution, and what separates the highest-level performers from everyone else. Darryl's podcast comes audio-only — he doesn't want people staring at his face during a seven-hour episode — and the depth of his research is a reminder of what's possible when you take your time to really understand something.

It's so sneaky and so quick, and you don't expect it. He's so high level off his back, and he caught him, I think, with like one second to go in the third round, a fight that he was losing. Yeah, he broke Jamal's arm or dislocated his elbow, too. He's one of those guys, like Ryan Hall. Starting point is 00:01:36 They're on the feet dancing around. It's like, what are we really watching here, kind of, but man, as soon as they hit the ground, it's the next level. Yeah, there's a giant disparity between his stand up, which is good. His good stand up. You know, and the Bo Nicol fight was entirely stand up. It was a good fight. You know, he looked good on the feet, but you woul...
