Episode Overview

Alternative history researcher Michael Button joins Joe for a wide-ranging conversation about ancient sites, suppressed archaeological evidence, and the possibility of vastly older human civilizations. The episode covers Harari's Sapiens — Button notes that even Harari would admit sapiens didn't really do anything qualitatively new — and what this implies about earlier potential civilizations. A recurring question challenges the dating assumptions of Egyptian archaeology: what if Zahi Hawass is wrong about the ages? Two-thousand-year-old artifacts depicting stars and planets in precise geometric relationships suggest sophisticated astronomical knowledge. Button discusses an unknown ancient site video he made, the Sentinelese people of the Andaman Islands who survived the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, and an ancient object that looks unmistakably like a machine component. A strange biological thread covers humans with a fourth bone that allows faster finger movement, and Button closes by directing people to his correct YouTube channel (Michael Button One).
